Discourage Theft of Your Blog Content
Here's a nice snippet of code that I've just placed in my 'Input your own Header HTML' section of Look and Feel to make copying posted content more difficult. I haven't tested it in any browser other than IE, but at least in IE 1) it makes left mouse-click selection (for purposes of copying) unavailable, 2) it makes IE's 'Edit, Select All' menu function (which would then allow you to 'Edit, Copy') dysfunctional, and 3) it makes a right click anywhere reload your page (thus discouraging 'rightclick-Save Picture As...').

Oh this is WONDERFUL!! ROFL! But it still doesn't stop people taking my graphics from the temp cache, which is how the one most famous for it does it. After a day of 'looking around' the cache is simply saved, and gone through later to take images.

why the fuck would anyone want to?
If i click Read subcriptions it shows you so i can copy any posts i would want to not sure why exactly i would do this but if i wanted a pic i would hit print screen go into a basic drawing program i.e Paint and juat hit paste so this codec just makes it harder it doesnt Realy stop it
It's still possible to copy and paste it all, sans images, from "Sites I Read". I woulda put up this post as an example, 'cept I didn't want it to get in the way of my content.
It doesn't work if you highlight and then control-c. At least with Mozilla.
I figure that we shouldn't put anything on the web at all if it is that important to us to keep it from those who would take it. Motivated people always find a way... it's all there with a click on source anyway. Not that I like it when someone appropriates my work without giving me credit at least, but life is too short to worry about such things.
ZaPoW brought up the Sites I Read point, which is what I was thinking (after I ctrl+c'd the code in your text box). However, it does make taking images more difficult for the random browsing layman who knows how to "save picture as"...

That's all well and good, but anyone who gets e-mail or views your work in their subscription list, can copy all the same. (So I've found out) I saw this entry in an e-mail, copied the code, and put it on my site.
I like the idea though. I tested it on another browser I have also, Mozilla's Firefox, which leads me to believe that MOzilla type browsers might not be fully compatible. I can't right-click, but I can select text and then click copy from the drop-down menu.

This "breaks" more than it fixes for me. (For example, I generally need to click in the comment box, in order to be able to type in it). I'm guessing this is one of those areas of webdesign we disagree on.
Your point seems to be to put up some level of protection for your content (which, I'm sure you are aware is not 100%). I stay away from "no right-click" goodness, etc., because as a web user, it drives me batty... For example, I use right-click all the time to open links in a page other than the one they are listed on.
I am sure you are aware of all of the ways people can steal content (many already listed above), and I'll refrain from mentioning any more.
I guess my point is that I agree that protecting your content is a good thing. But, since it can't be done 100% effectively *AND* disables key features of the web-browsing experience, I would recommend against it.

Interesting. However, I had no difficulty copying it from my SIR, which I don't think is called SIR anymore, but you know what I mean. Not that I wanted to copy it. I just wanted to say I could.
