(and maybe I'm the naive one here) shouldn't parents have already taught their children not to give out personal information online? both of my sons have xanga sites... and when they were making them, I made it very clear to them that anyone could see it, and not to give personal information such as last name, address, etc. hell, I even told them not to pick a "metro."
and xanga is blocked at their high school... but quite a few of the kids know how to "get around" the block... including my sons. (of course, I had to be the responsible parent and tell them that just because they can get by the block doesn't mean they should... and to only use it at home.)
Wow! We're famous! But all kidding aside...it does give me the willies when kids use their real first and last names on here. I think last names should be private.

In defence of whomever decided it was a danger, Ive heard a few times that there have been people that have used xanga as a forum to promote some pretty sick things but you can do that anywhere. Too many people are obsessed that the internet is full of weird men wanting to groom their children. I have been on Xanga two years searching many sites and only twice have I found weirdos, of course there is pretense. As long as children do not give out their full name or the name of their school and so on the place is safe for seven year olds if they keep out of the Xanga porn-blogs.

From just about day one, they were fully aware not to reveal personal info. The punishment for breaking the rule? No more internet--EVER!!! I dont play around where my kids safety is concerned.
