Asking for feedback!
I'm toying with voice recording some of my poetry (as GudKarma has done in leading the way) to include here aside of its blog-written form.
But I don't have a sound studio! lol
So before I go off with any elaborate designs, I'd appreciate just a little feedback on the recording of a recent poem I posted:
1) Is the recording clear enough to understand?
2) Is the background noise too distracting?
3) If I were a silent film actor at the turn of last century, would I have lost my job with the arrival of "talkies"?
4) Does the embedded player even play back in a timely fashion (bandwidth issue)?

its really cool. listening to a poem read by the author is a whole different level in the poetry experience.. it's almost as though words i read mean something totally than words i hear...
using 56K i had no problem, i have a great sound card and speakers though.
as far as real media goes i rate the quality a 6

a good idea... I so wanted to hear your voice, but it didn't work on my computer, for some reason (it's not really my computer, so I'm afraid to muck with it)

sorry, i spent the better part of half an hour trying to make it work. i got a problem with realplayer (your page on my computer just displays a placeholder) or my download sucks.
i tried to listen in my head, though.
the backround noise was not a problem to me. your voice is dreamy! thanks for enhancing your written words for your minion readers. =0)

i had no problems with the sound quality or the background noise (didn't even notice it actually, except for a wierd sort of clicking noise right at the end, which was probably you setting the mic down).
Your voice quality is good as well. Just remember to keep it slow and clear when recording, and fluctuate the voice up and down, avoid monotones. Listen to other people speaking - both live and recorded - and find the stuff that really annoys you about their voice (too fast, too soft, too grating, too flat) and then DON'T DO IT!!
I'm interested in more details about how you did it, was thinking of recording some of my own poetry but not sure how to do it... see what you started??

A wee bit choppy, had some net congestion to deal with ... but worth the small wait. I don't have a fast connect (no dsl in the middle of nowhere on the Ca. Coastline ... lucky if I get a 24 at my end ...) however ...

Wow, great to hear your voice! I agree with ms_chif4u, that all we need now, is a face to go with the voice!
But what background noise are you talking about? The only thing I could think of was that you occasionaly sounded as from inside a tin can or something. But no big deal really. I have a 56K modem and there was almost immediate connection. And the short clicking sound at the end I imagined as the clocks and watches last tic-tac before they stopped!
It worked fine from here.
