Factions in Xanga (Tower of Babel?)
I’m going to spin-off an insightful and heartfelt log of James from yesterday wherein he described David’s decision to *draw a line in the sand* of Xanga by rededicating his (David’s) site as a Christian Blog Web Ring with exclusive membership. Read James’ account, by all means. It is much more considerate than what I have to say.
David describes his Blog Web Ring (BWR) thusly: “This site is dedicated to promoting those sites that are free of profanity and Sexual content and in no way limited to just Christian sites.” Free—as evaluated by David, self-appointed eCensor for his Christian BWR.
So who’s next? The Aussie Blog Web Ring? The Female Blog Web Ring? The Under-Twenty Blog Web Ring? The Poetry Blog Web Ring (*tough one: sounds so good to me!*)? Which former common citizen Xangite bloggers amongst us will now step forward and apart as self-promoted eCensors for their special interest group (SIG) ? Come on! Don’t be shy. David’s led the way…time for us all to follow. Jockey for realignment one and all—or be left without a Ring! (almost like facing the fate of becoming a spinster..ooh). Actually, don’t worry all of you who fear that you may not meet the standards of *any* of the upcoming Blog Web Ring eCensors. I am going to start an Anti-Blog Web Ring, the only requirement for membership in which BWR is that all other BWR’s have summarily rejected you.
By the way, the Xangites that go by the names of Christ, Jesus, and Jesus_Christ will not be joining the Christian Blog Web Ring. They have a curious leaning toward the tentative Anti-Blog Web Ring but are non-commital at this point. They have instructed me, however, to inform the Christian Blog Web Ring that they have no intention of disrupting or scandalizing their proceedings—as could be well possible, given the historic credibility associated with their names. Rather nice guys, I should say, for promising to stay so non-controversially low key.

I don't begrudge anyone their faith, but personally I prefer not to be involved. They may feel awkward and uncomfortable when they visit my site if I've happened to drop a swear word in, but I can assure you that I feel equally awkward and uncomfortable when I visit a site that has very little more than religious doctrine...

Might want to take a look at my page again great wise one. I have done nothing that this site doesn't with each and every site. Everyone has the same subscription list. Which some have published in a simalar method as my page. How many use links to other pages almost daily no problems there? Hmm How many people use the reviews? Hmm no problem there? How many people use the I read list? no problems there eiather?Hmmmm How many people use thier pages to voice thier pages to tell others what they believe in or express thier opinions? Hmmm again. There are plenty of pages out there that say things like Check out these links mp-3s they are great. It wont just take you to a single but Hundreds of different artist. However there are hundreds of thousands of artist out there. Oh the injustice that everyone doesn't agree that blues isn't the best music.That rock stuff is out to get us. We should be listed on the rock page too. Why do they have to have a rock page anyway? cant we just lump every song together that has ever been written and let them listen to each one from A to Z till they find the song they are looking for? And we can even make it better we wont even break it down into different styles. Country , blugrass, blues, soul, rock, rap, gospel, easy listening, Hard rock, classical No separation Just Xanga music. Now you go find your favorite type music. Hope you dont loose track half way through of which ones you've already listened too you may have to start over. All i am doing is directing people to other people that have the same type of intrest that I try to present on my page. You need a cause go attack theme stream. They have a great table of contents. How many other logs say "Petition for inclusion and let me be the final arbiter according to my standards." ? I think there's a bit of the old-time Greek sin of hubris creeping into your Christian arena.
I asked that my name be removed from the "Christian Web Ring" List as soon as I saw that it was there....the reasons seem to be demonstrated clearly enough in the divisive comments above. It is nice to be well though of, and I understand and respect the reasoning behind creating a list of Xanga contributors where one can be assured of no sexual content or profanity. But I don't like lists of those "approved" by a certain group. No matter how noble their stated goals or motivations are, exclusive clubs are, at best, divisive. I would rather include everyone in my circle. Yes, we have among us all levels of maturity. Perhaps by not shutting anyone out of my circle I might even in some small way have a positive impact on someone's life. Anyway, I hope those on both sides of this issue will understand why I asked to not be on the approved list. I hope it will be dropped. I know David is hurt that his motivations are "misunderstood" but I hope he also appreciates that his list can only be understood as "a line in the sand," as James characterized it, to those not "approved." The official list of "Sites I read" is adequate statement of our preferences and recommendations.

I can see that you *no longer* stipulate a submission requirement, as you apparently had in contacting some individuals--some who felt a little dismayed once they were *accepted* and then included on the *other side* of your line in the sand. So, to use computer jargon, if your'e *seemlessly* reintegrating your log, welcome back. Perhaps, as James more eloquently observed in his remarks on your prior design, the tides have returned and washed the *line in the sand* away.
Quite the contrary same standards still apply. Just the wording isn't as open. Everyone applaudded james enty of over 25 subscribers last week with links attached. Wonder what purpose that served. I'm sure I could come up with one. But that doesn't really matter I hope he was successful what ever it was. It hurt no one and maybe got some traffic to sites he enjoys. As far as petition I simply asked permission to put a link to thier page. with a breif descriptuion of how it would be used. Simple stated that wasn't required but the right thing to do. You can post any link in xanga without permission. I'm sorry people spend so much time trying to edit my page. The editing is complete. That page has produced some good debates. But that isn't really what I came here to do. So I wish you the best in your persute of truth and justice. By the way its been fun. Don't agree with you but you present a great arguement. Wow, I had the idea for a catergorized group from day one, but it was only for creative pruposes like Poetry, Art, you know to showcase all the great talent on XANGA. I had no idea it would turn into a debate like this!- Personally, I think it's a safe bet that the Christian Weblog ring will cause some fuss, but Efh em, let them do their own thing. If their all exclusive and all that, then why are they all lurking in and out of great logs like this one that are som open minded.- Anyway, I don't condeme them for doing it, it's a strategy I guess.-

I think it wasn't so much WHAT David did as the WAY he did it, coming off sounding holier-than-thou and judgmental. Yes, we can all put anything we like in our blogs. And we can say anything we like. But nine times out of ten, it's the wording that causes a furor more than the actual opinion or thought. I subscribed to David's blog almost from the first day I got here, and read his work faithfully, leaving an eProp and comment from time to time. My blog is about my girls, and the things they say and do, and I consider it to be very family-oriented. I even mention church incidents once in a while. David has left comments from time to time, so I know he knows I'm here. Yet I didn't make the "cut." Why was that? It makes me [and others like me] wonder what we did wrong that we weren't "worthy" to be mentioned as a family-friendly site. So we should reduce ourselves to "applying" to be mentioned, and risk being judged unacceptable? Why couldn't he just say something like, "Hey, this is a really good, family-friendly site that I like, and I think you will too," and leave it at that, instead of drawing a line in the sand? By the way, I unsubscribed from his blog on purpose, because I found the whole thing offensive. I may re-subscribe someday, but it will be anonymously.

1) Not everyone applauded James' list--I didn't for one. I don't applaud any lists. They remind me too much of laundry.
2)I'm not trying to edit your page, just understand your genius and its ramifications. Scrutiny can sometimes reveal magnificent hidden structures, sometimes not. Opals are sometimes found in the desert by mere scratchings in the sand.
3) I'm on no crusade in the pursuit of truth and justice (hey, you forgot to throw in: the American way!--oops, that might offend the likes of Bluemoo and Poptardis--wait...nevermind: they're probably in the Australian outback right now scratching for opals!).
4)Fun is good. More fun is better. But nothing satifies the eProp habit like an uniquely oval eProp. Oh yeah: perfectdrug is on the right blog for a fix.
ok now wait just one second here.... i never get involved in this petty drama that everyone raves and raves about....and its usually because i dont understand what the hell the fuss is. From the begining i went to David's site when he had all those Eprops and i was curious. I saw however, that he was flooding the masses with christian poems about the love of god, etc.... not something im too keen about, so i didnt return. And im sure im the last person he wants to go check in on my daily BULLSHIT.

No one needs to inherit what they already have. The kingdom is at hand. Someone died to get that message across. And part of the message, I believe, was that no one else would ever again need to die for it--and that no one is excluded.
When my sister was in the 9th grade of a Catholic girl's school, a spiritual crisis for her ensued when she started to loose her faith because the catechism damned so many to so much misery--and that was just insane. She began to believe that life in such a heartless world was not much worth living and that religion was a witch-burning waiting to happen. One day in class when the topic of catechism was *Hell*, Sister Benedict, the teacher and a nun of great age and wrinkled visage, *just stopped* in the middle of the lesson, observed several minutes of silence, and then addressed the class of 9th graders thusly: "I have a great truth to reveal to you: Yes, there is a Hell. But Satan is the *only* one in it." My sister, upon hearing this, was shaken in place with a great healing and cried with such inner joy--because it rang so true. Today, my sister is a deeply spiritual person, though not *wholesomely* (in David's sense) religious. As for Sister Benedict, that was her last day in class. It seems, the Diocese felt that the very next day was the proper day for Sister Benedict to begin her long-awaited, hard-earned retirement. Well for one sweet girl, one day too late, suckas!

That is what i want to believe in.... maybe my brain just gets a little too deep sometimes, and things get blown out of realistic realms. How Christian it is that they feel the need to segregate themselves from the rest of the community. I wrote a little rant that David commented on too tonight. I think we all have pretty strong views about how we are judged, or seen to be judged and so we should. We are all so very different, how could we ever be compared to one another??? And no, segregation is NOT the answer, the answer is intergration. I think we make a pretty cool bunch of writers!
